about me
Hello! Thanks for visiting my site! For those of you curious to know a bit about me, you’ve reached the right page. I’m an engineer by day, with a passion for cooking and all things food! I grew up in a Czech household, so much of my influence is from cooking traditional recipes with my mom, as well as changing up other recipes with our own twist. I’ve been cooking as long as I can remember - I’ve been told that my mom kept a stool in the kitchen so I could help her cook.
I decided to start this website mostly to see if I could do it. I remember pretending to have my own cooking show - my mom and I would imitate Julia Child and the other chefs on PBS, talking as if we were being filmed… I figured it’s about darn time to make it a reality! I hope those of you watching the videos get something out of it. Feel free to send me comments or suggestions for future shows at veronica (at) idratherbecooking (dot) com (getting too much spam, so I had to remove the mailto link).
To explain the name of the site… Well, as we were brainstorming, most of our ideas were already taken.
Then it just hit me - many times, when at work or doing other things, I think, “I’d rather be cooking than doing this…” And voila! The name stuck.
And to my dear sister, Sasha (and my dad, too) - thank you for teaching me how to kick people out of a kitchen when they’re “managing” the quality…
Thanks for stopping by, and dobrou chut’!

What a great site. My daughter will be using the site for her homeschooling assignments in home engineering 101.
I love mexican food and can’t for the life of me make good gravy.

Added on May 12th, 2007 at 9:44 pmI can personally attest to the flavor and quality of the recipes…having “supervised” and “managed” the cooking with MANY quality checks over the years. Rachael Ray move over!
